Woman employee of the Colombo airport slit to death, killer apprehended while fleeing the country

COLOMBO : An individual who is suspected of having murdered a woman near the Kahathuduwa interchange of the Southern Expressway, has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, police said.

The 41-year-old victim, who is reportedly an employee of the Civil Aviation Authority, had been hacked to death in the Kahathuduwa area Tuesday, Jan.(09).

A 45-year-old man suspected to have committed the murder was identified and arrested at the airport while attempting to leave the country, the police spokesman said.

The deceased has been identified as Mapitiyage Dulangali Anuruddhika, 42 of Madapatha, Jamburaliya in Piliyandala. The perpetrator had attacked her in the neck with a sharp object, when she walking from the Expressway exit point to the Colombo-Horana road to take the bus bound to her house. She succumbed to her injuries after being admitted to Wethara Hospital.

The initial inquiries have revealed that the car utilized by the victim has been officially registered under the name of an individual residing in Anuradhapura.Information received to the Police has indicated that the illicit relationship has ultimately led to the tragic homicide. Investigations are being conducted by the Crime Division officials attached to the Mount Lavinia Police.
