COLOMBO : Eight warships from seven countries including Bangladesh, India, Iran, Maldives, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Russia will dock at Colombo Harbour this week to participate in the highly anticipated International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025.
This monumental maritime event, scheduled for November 30, marks the 75th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Navy and aims to exemplify the theme “Sailing Strong Together,” showcasing international cooperation and Sri Lanka’s growing role as a regional maritime security partner.
The participating foreign warships, alongside the Sri Lanka Navy fleet, will present a naval salute to the President of Sri Lanka, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. The celebrations will commence on November 28 with collaborative programs involving the foreign crews, Sri Lanka Navy personnel, sister services, and police, fostering camaraderie and strengthening ties among the maritime forces.
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, expressed profound honor in hosting the International Fleet Review for the Navy’s diamond jubilee. He highlighted that the presence of these warships from within and beyond the region will serve to reinforce Sri Lanka’s maritime partnerships and contribute significantly to peace and stability across the Indian Ocean. The event also sends a firm signal to the global community about Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing regional and global maritime cooperation.
Beyond ceremonial significance, the IFR 2025 includes social, and environmental initiatives. This event not only commemorates a proud naval history but also elevates Sri Lanka’s international stature in security and diplomatic engagements at sea.
