RIYADH : The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), a youth empowerment organization based in Riyadh, has contributed Saudi Riyals 100,000 (approx. USD 26,000) to support the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ programme launched by the Government of Sri Lanka to assist reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of the Ditwah Cyclone, which devastated parts of the country in December 2025.
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia, Ameer Ajwad, visited the WAMY headquarters in Riyadh and met with the Secretary-General of the organization, Dr. Salih bin Ibrahim Babaer, to convey his sincere appreciation for this generous contribution extended to the people of Sri Lanka in response to the appeal made by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh.
Ambassador Ajwad also appreciated WAMY’s continued engagement with Sri Lanka through humanitarian, educational, and community development initiatives aimed at uplifting vulnerable communities and promoting social well-being.
Established in 1972, WAMY has been playing a significant role for over five decades as a global platform for youth empowerment by providing educational opportunities, leadership training, and social development programmes. The organization also promotes initiatives that encourage moderation, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence while fostering youth participation in social and developmental activities. WAMY is also a member of UN NGOs.
