COLOMBO : The Wakf Board of Sri Lanka places on record its serious concern regarding the circulation of defamatory and misleading content targeting the institution and its members.
Assertions that CID officials entered the Wakf Board premises in search of members, or that officials absconded to evade arrest, are entirely fabricated. Such reporting reflects a reckless disregard for factual accuracy and legal responsibility.
The Wakf Board is a statutory body governed by law. Decisions are taken collectively, and no individual member exercises arbitrary authority. Any alleged misconduct from prior periods—if any—cannot be attributed to the present Board without evidence or due process.
We call upon all media institutions, online publishers, bloggers, and administrators to:
• Verify facts before publication,
• Correct false information already disseminated, and
• Refrain from sensationalism that undermines public confidence in statutory institutions.
The Wakf Board and its members reserve the right to pursue legal remedies against any individual or entity continuing to disseminate defamatory or misleading content.
