Visas for Ukrainians currently in Lanka to be extended

COLOMBO – The Sri Lankan government plans to extend the validity period of the visas of Ukrainian travelers currently in the country due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga stated that he will make submissions in this regard at the Cabinet meeting to be held on Monday. The Foreign Ministry is already in discussions with the Department of Immigration and Emigration in this regard, he said.

Visas are issued for a minimum of one month. The Minister further stated that the necessary steps will be taken to take into consideration the expiration date of the visas of Ukrainians staying in Sri Lanka.

The number of Ukrainian tourists currently staying in the country is close to 4,000. The Tourism Development Authority stated that 11,500 Russian tourists are staying in Sri Lanka.
