Viet Nam celebrates its Lunar New Year Festival in a grand manner in Colombo

COLOMBO — The Viet Nam Embassy in Colombo celebrated its Lunar New Year “Binh Ngo” (Year of Horse) 2026 at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, Colombo on Saturday January 31.
It was held under the patronage of Ambassador of the Viet Nam Trinh Thi Tam

The Ambassador said The Year of the Horse symbolizes energy, resilience, and the spirit of moving forward — values that resonate strongly with both the Vietnamese and Sri Lankan peoples and the Lunar New Year is the most important holiday in Viet Nam .

Over the years, she said the friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka have continued to grow based on mutual respect, trust, and shared interests. “ We are pleased to see expanding collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. I am confident that in the year ahead, our two countries will further strengthen these ties, contributing to development and prosperity in both nations and to peace and stability in our region. “

“ To the Vietnamese community in Sri Lanka, Tet is also a reminder of our roots and identity. I sincerely appreciate your solidarity, hard work, and contributions to promoting the image of Viet Nam abroad, as well as to fostering friendship between our two countries. “

Different Games and Cultural events were held during the ceremony among the large number of Vietnamese community members who are living, studying and working in Sri Lanka .

Colombo Times Chief Editor Mohamed Rasooldeen officiated as one of the judges of the various competitions and also presented the prizes to the winners.
Members from media with their family members, Viet Nam Embassy staff took part in the daylong event .
