COLOMBO, : Ambassador of Viet Nam to Sri Lanka H.E. Trịnh Thị Tâm, Chair of the Colombo Plan Council, chaired the 312th Session of the Colombo Plan Council in Colombo on Friday.
The meeting was held in a hybrid format at the Cinnamon Grand Colombo, bringing together representatives of member countries of the Colombo Plan. The session discussed a number of important issues concerning the organisation’s operations, institutional matters and future directions for cooperation.
The Council considered the Interim Work Programme for the period from September 2026 to September 2027, aimed at ensuring the continuity and effectiveness of the organisation’s activities in the coming period.
Other key matters on the agenda included a proposal to increase the annual contributions of member countries; amendments to the Consolidated Guidelines for the Colombo Plan Standing Committee on Administrative and Financial Matters; proposals concerning Colombo Plan capacity-building programmes and scholarships; and preparations for the 49th Consultative Committee Meeting.
Viet Nam has been serving as the Chair of the Colombo Plan Council on a rotational basis since January 2026. During its chairmanship, Viet Nam has actively worked with member countries to maintain the effective functioning of the organisation, promote practical cooperation programmes and strengthen the Colombo Plan’s contribution to human resource development in the region.
Viet Nam has also been coordinating activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Colombo Plan, highlighting the organisation’s longstanding contribution to regional cooperation and human resource development.
The Colombo Plan, established in 1951, is an intergovernmental organisation focusing on economic and social development and human resource development among its member countries. Over the decades, it has provided an important platform for cooperation through capacity-building, training and scholarship programmes.
