COLOMBO ; The Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court ordered to release of Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero on bail, following his recent remand custody in connection with an investigation into alleged threats and abduction.
The bail was granted on two personal sureties of Rs. 500,000 each and a cash bail of Rs. 10,000. The court also imposed a travel ban, prohibiting the Thero from leaving the country.
Ven. Rathana Thero had been remanded over allegations related to the abduction and intimidation of Ven. Wedanigama Wimalatissa Thero, the General Secretary of the Ape Janabala Pakshaya (Our People’s Power Party), during a dispute over the party’s National List parliamentary seat following the 2020 General Election.
The arrest was made after a warrant was issued, and the Thero was produced before court today (12), where the bail order was delivered.
