COLOMBO : the Four managers of four private commercial banks have been arrested by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) in connection with investigations into an incident where a money changer from Colombo Fort had allegedly transferred USD 01 billion without importing any goods to Sri Lanka, the police said.
All four bank managers were reportedly arrested while at their respective private banks.
It is stated that this is the first time such arrests have been made in Sri Lanka.
Investigations have revealed that the main individual allegedly involved in the scam had made weekly payments to the four arrested suspects.
Accordingly, each official had reportedly been paid Rs. 30,000, Rs. 50,000, and Rs. 100,000 per week at different instances.
Investigations have also revealed that one of the four arrested bank managers had received a payment of around Rs. 1 million on one occasion.
Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Ada Detana
