US president threatening the life of Iran’s Supreme Leader is deeply disturbing and dangerously provocative – says former governor,NUA leader Azath Salley

COLOMBO : Reacting to the recent statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump, calling for the “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER” of Iran and openly threatening the life of Iran’s Supreme Leader, former governor Azath Salley says they are not only deeply disturbing and irresponsible but dangerously provocative.

in his statement , NUA leader Salley says : ” This kind of rhetoric, coming from someone who claims to be uninvolved in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, exposes the height of his hypocrisy and double standards of other world leaders who remain silent on the atrocities committed against Palestinians by Israel in Gaza, yet find time to issue threats and ultimatums to others.

As of 11 June 2025, over 55,720 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza war according to the Gaza Health Ministry, as well as 180 journalists and media workers, 120 academics, and o 224 humanitarian aid workers, a number that includes 179 employees of UNRWA. The UN’s Human Rights Office in its latest analysis found around 44% of verified victims were children and 26% women. The ages most represented among the dead were five to nine-year-olds. Yet, global institutions, including the United Nations, remain passive in the face of this ongoing live-streamed genocide. While Trump speaks of “targets” and “surrender,” the world continues to witness the deliberate slaughter and destruction of an entire population by the Israeli regime.

The time has come for the international community, the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement, and all nations that believe in justice, peace, and the rule of law to rise in one voice and strongly condemn the continued war crimes and human rights violations being committed by Israel.

We cannot allow a world order where some nations can kill with impunity while others are threatened for simply standing up against oppression. Silence is complicity.

I urge all world leaders of conscience to speak out forcefully and demand immediate accountability, protection for the people of Palestine, and an end to the reckless language that fuels global instability..”
