
New restaurant concepts bring authentic Thai cuisine, premium steaks and international flavours under one roof
COLOMBO — Universal Gateway Holdings (Pvt) Ltd has strengthened its presence in Sri Lanka’s food and beverage sector with the opening of two new restaurant concepts, Thai Fusion and Global Kitchen, operating from the same premises.
The restaurants were officially opened at a special event on Tuesday,, 18 August, attended by diplomats, government ministers, and members of the business community, marking another milestone in the group’s ongoing hospitality expansion.
The restaurant- Global Kitchen at 90, Davidson Road,was formally inaugurated by Deputy SpeakerDr Rizwie Salih and the owner Mohammed Aftab in the presence of Malaysian high Badli Hisham Adam , members of the diplomatic corps , businessmen, friends,well wishers and special guests.
Thai Fusion, located on the ground and mezzanine floors, is built around the idea of an authentic Thai dining experience, led by a team of chefs brought in directly from Thailand. The menu features traditional salads, soups, curries, seafood specialities, rice and noodle dishes, alongside signature Thai desserts and beverages.
On the first floor, Global Kitchen takes a different approach as a multi-cuisine restaurant. It places particular emphasis on imported premium steaks and gourmet burgers, alongside a broad selection of Pakistani, Chinese, Indian and other international dishes. The concept is designed for families, business diners, and guests looking for variety under one roof.
Mohamed Afthab, Chairman and Managing Director of Universal Gateway Holdings, said the launch reflects the group’s long-term F&B strategy. “Our objective is to develop strong restaurant concepts that offer quality food, consistency and memorable dining experiences,” he said. “With Thai Fusion, we are particularly focused on maintaining authenticity, and following its establishment, we intend to expand the brand to other key locations around Sri Lanka.”
Universal Gateway Holdings already operates the established Indian Summer Restaurants brand, with locations in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Galle, as well as a branch in the Maldives — a foundation that has supported the group’s move into new concepts.
“The food and beverage sector under Universal Gateway Holdings is growing rapidly,” Afthab added. “Our vision is not simply to increase the number of restaurants, but to introduce distinctive concepts and cuisines to the Sri Lankan market while maintaining high standards across our brands.”
The group is also preparing to introduce an Indonesian restaurant franchise to Sri Lanka in the near future, further diversifying its restaurant portfolio.photos MSM Saleem
