GAMPAHA :Just nine months after celebrating their wedding, the promising lives of two young professionals came to an abrupt, tragic end on Friday morning (October 9) along their daily commute on the Gampaha–Kirindiwela road.
The victims were identified as 26-year-old R.W. Gihan Randil Rajapaksha, a mechanical engineer at a private motorcycle firm in Colombo, and his wife, J.P. Nadeeshani Theja, also 26, a management assistant attached to the Ministry of Buddhasasana in Battaramulla.
Schoolmates whose relationship endured through their university years, the couple married on January 16 and had recently settled in Gedumana, Henegama, to ease their daily office travel.
The fatal incident unfolded around 7:00 a.m. on October 9 near the Henegama Junction. While traveling by motorcycle toward Gampaha, the pair collided with an oncoming SLTB passenger bus attached to the Kirindiwela Depot.
Gihan died on impact after suffering severe head injuries at the scene. Nadeeshani, critically wounded in the crash, was rushed to the Gampaha District General Hospital by emergency responders but succumbed to her injuries shortly after admission.
The double tragedy has cast a heavy pall of sorrow over both Henegama and their native Imbulgoda. Bound together in life, the young couple made their final journey side by side, laid to rest in a single grave at the Imbulgoda Kirillawala Public Cemetery following joint funeral rites. source from the Social media
