Three days of national mourning for the late Nanda Malini commences from August 21

COLOMBO : The government has declared three days of national morning from tomorrow in view of the passing of legendary Sri Lankan singer Nanda Malini, according to the Government Information Department. 

Accordingly, it said that August 21, 22 and 23 have been declared as days of national morning in Sri Lanka.

The remains of the late veteran singer Visharad Dr. Nanda Malini will lie in state at the Nanda Malani Sangeetha Ashramaya (Music Academy) located at No. 30, Vijayaba Mawatha, Nawala Road, Nugegoda, from 10.00 a.m. tomorrow (21) until 3.30 p.m. on Saturday (22) for the public to pay their last respects.

Her final rites will be performed on Saturday (22) at 5.00 p.m. at the General Cemetery in Borella.

Legendary Sri Lankan singer Nanda Malini passed away today (20) at the age of 82 at her home in Nawala.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), President Anura Kumara Dissanayake expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of veteran singer Nanda Malini, describing her as “a true musical legend of our time”.

The President said Nanda Malini’s timeless music had inspired generations of Sri Lankans, both young and old and that her remarkable musical legacy would continue to live on in the hearts of millions.
