COLOMBO :This year, the month of April has been special for Sri Lankans of different communities. Christians celebrated Easter, our Muslim brothers and sisters began their holy month of Ramazan and for the Sinhala and Tamil communities it’s as always the month of the National New Year.
All these events symbolize newness and provide opportunities for renewal. Last year April was shrouded in the darkness of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
This year while the pandemic is far from over and people are living as though it has vanished, things are just a little bit brighter.
As our communities celebrate festivals of renewal and new life may we commit ourselves to the renewal of our minds and our ways of being so that our lives would reflect all that is good and virtuous in our different faith traditions. As the National New Year dawns may truth, light and wholeness of life be God’s gifts to all our people.
