The Western Province Rugby Referees’ Society (WPRRS) elects Nazeem Ghaffoor as its President

COLOMBO — The Western Province Rugby Referees’ Society (WPRRS) has announced the appointment of Nazeem Ghaffoor as President of the Western Province Rugby Referees’ Society at its Annual General Meeting held at Havelock City. Colombo recently.

Ghaffoor assumed leadership at a pivotal period for rugby officiating in the Western Province, supported by a strong and experienced management team committed to advancing refereeing standards.

The following were elected as new office bearers for the year 2025/2026.

President: Nazeem Ghaffoor, Vice President: Brigadier Upali Kotuwegedara, Secretary A. R. Adam, Committee Members Pradeep Fernando, R. M. Thilina D. Rathnayake, A. D. U. S. Weerasena, B. M. Irfan Lye and Referee Manager Dr. G. K. P. Suranga.

The Society also paid tribute to Immediate Past President Wimal Senanayake, appreciating his guidance and leadership over the past two years, during which a strong organizational and developmental foundation was established for the referees’ fraternity.

A former rugby player and captain of Zahira College, Colombo, Nazeem Ghaffoor brings decades of involvement in the sport as a player, coach and referee. He is widely respected for his contributions to rugby administration and currently serves as a Citing Commissioner with Sri Lanka Rugby, where he plays a key role in upholding match governance, discipline, and officiating standards.
