COLOMBO — The TruRout ride-hailing app was officially launched recently at the Waters Edge Hotel in Battaramulla. The event was led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Munasar Munas.
Speaking at the launch, company representatives highlighted the challenges faced by drivers using existing ride-hailing platforms, noting that many services charge commissions ranging from 15% to 27% of drivers’ earnings. In contrast, TruRout aims to introduce a commission-free model that allows drivers to retain 100% of their fare income.
Under this system, drivers pay a subscription fee of Rs. 250 for 24 hours of access to the platform. During the subscription period, all earnings from completed rides belong entirely to the driver, with the company taking no commission from fares.
To provide greater flexibility, TruRout has also introduced a 12-hour grace period. Drivers who are unable to pay the subscription fee immediately can continue accepting ride requests during this period and settle the payment later. For digital payments, only the subscription fee will be deducted automatically, while drivers will continue to receive the full fare from each trip.
The company announced that passengers can book taxi services through the TruRout app, with operations initially launching in Colombo before expanding to other parts of Sri Lanka. It was also revealed that popular Sri Lankan YouTuber Ashen Senarathna has been appointed as the brand ambassador for the platform.
For safety reasons, motorcycle ride services will not be available during the initial launch phase. However, the company said it is considering introducing the service in the future.
Company representatives emphasized that TruRout’s mission extends beyond profitability, stating that the platform is designed to safeguard drivers’ earnings while creating fair and sustainable income opportunities within the transport sector.
The company concluded by inviting taxi drivers across Sri Lanka to register with the TruRout platform and encouraging passengers to experience its services. Additional information about the app is available through the company’s official social media channels and app download platforms.
