The Supreme Council of Sufi Thareeqas (SCOT) condemns hate speech made by Sathya Vlogs and calls for legal action

COLOMBO : The Supreme Council of Sufi Thareeqas (SCOT) has protested against the hate speech relayed in YouTube by Sathya Vlogs which has hurt Islamjc sentiments.

In a statement issued on Friday,October 6.the council states ” A recent hate speech, seen on Sathya vlogs on its YouTube channel in sept 2023 has impinged

on the Muslim faith & its beloved Messengers teachings.

The spitting of unresearched history and portraying stories of the Muslim faith in a despicable

manner with lies and fabrications certainly calls for an inquiry from the state.

These Hate Speech will not help our country that is starved of peace and reconciliation among

our communities. Let’s not allow these brow beating individuals who work to destroy our

nation continue unchecked, in a pluralistic society.

We, the peace-loving Muslims of Sri Lanka who lived in harmony for the last thousand years,

don’t need any fire breathing racist individuals to stoke the fires in our country.

It is crucial to promote understanding, tolerance and unity. We firmly reject any form of hate

speech, as it goes against the principles of respect and empathy that should underpin any

society.

Instead, let us ensure an open dialogue, education, and engagement to foster a more inclusive

and compassionate community.

By actively working together to combat hate speech, we can build a world where diversity is

celebrated, and differences are appreciated as sources of strength, not division.

Together, we can create a society that upholds the values of equality and mutual respect

among all communities.

The Supreme Council of Sufi Thareeqas (SCOT) doesn’t approve of such channels, perpetrating

and promoting hate speakers. We want the authorities to take immediate steps to probe and

stop these virulent and toxic speakers going unabated, not realizing the damage that may

follow.

We make this complaint on behalf of the Muslim community.”
