The National Member Convention of the Sri Lanka Jama’athe Islami held with the signing of 3 MOUs with NGOs

COLOMBO — The National Member Convention of the Sri Lanka Jama’athe Islami was held under the theme “Noble Life, Prosperous Land” at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo on Saturday, June 29. The convention, presided over by the President of the Sri Lanka Jama’athe Islami, Ash-Sheikh M.H.M. Ussair Islahi, consisted of three sessions.

During the Guests’ Session, North Western Province Governor Hafiz Nazeer Ahmed, Member of Parliament A.H.M Fowzie and former Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya also participated. Several prominent figures spoke, including Ash-Sheikh Arkam Nooramith, General Secretary of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama; Faisz Mustapha P.C., Chancellor of the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, Ven. Galkande Dhammananda Thero, Director of Walpola Rahula Institute; Dr. Vinya Ariyaratne, President of Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement; Professor Sumathi Sivamohan, Professor of English, University of Peradeniya and Dr. Jehan Perera, Executive Director of the National Peace Council.  M.H.M. Asmi and Moulavia Najmun Nisa from the host organization also addressed the audience.

A Sinhala virudu poem was also recited by Ash-Sheikh Ayyash Rilaf Tanweeri.

The event featured the signing of memorandums of understanding with three national-level organizations, Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, Healthy Lanka, and IRES.

A documentary about the Sri Lanka Jama’athe Islami was screened, and a commemorative 70th-anniversary souvenir was launched.

The convention was attended by 1500 members and over 500 dignitaries from different ethnic and religious communities making it a grand success.
