The Law Students’ Muslim Majlis concludes its Quazi Court Visit

ADHLA SARAH

COLOMBO : The Law Students’ Muslim Majlis successfully conducted the first phase of its Quazi Court Visit, exclusively for the Executive Committee members and members of the 151st Batch on 22nd August 2026 at the Mount Lavinia Magistrate Court.

The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for students to observe the practical functioning of the Quazi Court. During the visit, we witnessed live Jury Sessions for Fasah divorce and also Khula divorce proceedings and gained first-hand insight into the procedures followed in such cases.

An informative session was also conducted on different types of divorce and the rules and procedures applicable to each, as well as the relevant Schedules under the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act (MMDA). The session helped bridge the gap between theoretical legal knowledge and its practical application.

The session was conducted by Mr. Amhar Shareef AAL, Quazi for Colombo West and General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Quazi Judges’ Forum. His valuable insights and practical guidance made the visit a highly informative and enriching experience for all participants. We thank him, his Jury Advisors and his Quazi Office Administration for facilitating us with a great opportunity to gain important guidance on quazi matters.

This initiative by the Law Students’ Muslim Majlis marks an important step towards providing its members with meaningful exposure to the practical aspects of Muslim law and the administration of justice.

First phase completed with many more learning opportunities ahead.
