COLOMBO – The Colombo Malay Cricket Club has organised the fourth consecutive year “ One Whistle” Netball Tournament on Sunday December 28th at the Colombo Malay Cricket Grounds, The “Padang”, Kew Road, Colombo 2.
The media briefing was held at the Colombo Malay Cricket Club premises on Thursday December 18. The President of the Club Roshan Allang said There are under 19 ten schools and 16 clubs will participate in this tournament. The teams will be divided into groups. First round will be on a league basis. The top two teams will go into the quarter finals. The top teams then will go to the Semi finals.
Trophies will be awarded to the Winners and Runner up teams in each the U-19 and the open tournament. In addition Best shooter, Best wing attack players will be recognized. A Netball Queen also will be crowned.
Former Sri Lankan National Captains and National Coaches will participate as special invitees as guests of honor at the tournament awards ceremony. Among them Asha Siriwardana, Sri Lanka Captain – World Cup 1987, Captain – Mercantile Netball Team and Netball Queen. Somitha De Alwis Captained – Sri Lanka Netball Team 2003 To 2004 and Thishala Tharani Algama, World Netball Championship – 2015,2023.
Main Sponsor of the tournament Jagath Jayaratne CEO, Rigel Technology (Singapore) Private Limited presented sponsorship to President of the Club Roshan Allang.
Vice President and Project Chairman Perry Jumat also addressed the media. Club Captain Azad Juranpathy and former President Rizwan Badurdeen were also present.
