COLOMBO — The 2026 Eoullim K-Culture Festival, jointly organised by Far East University, South Korea, and IDM Nations Campus International (IDMNC), Sri Lanka, will be held on August 29 from 9.00 a.m. onwards at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, Colombo. The event, which is open to the public with free admission, is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange.
The festival is a landmark initiative aimed at celebrating Korean culture while strengthening the longstanding friendship and educational cooperation between South Korea and Sri Lanka. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of Korean cultural attractions, including K-pop, K-dramas, K-food, K-beauty, traditional arts, and academic exchanges.
The event will also showcase the 1+3 academic partnership between Far East University and IDM Nations Campus International, which provides Sri Lankan students with opportunities to pursue higher education in South Korea.
A media briefing to announce the festival was held at the Hilton Colombo on July 31. Speaking at the event, Prof. Jang Hyunsuik, Head Professor of the Department of K-Culture Studies (K-Pop) and Secretarial Team Lead of the Gangwon K-Culture Festival Task Force at Far East University, said the festival will feature three main segments.
The morning session will comprise an Academic Conference focusing on cultural exchange and the future of K-pop. In the afternoon, visitors can take part in an interactive K-Culture Experience featuring Korean cuisine, beauty, and taekwondo activities. The festival will conclude with an evening K-Performance, including traditional Korean performances, taekwondo demonstrations, theatrical swordplay, and K-pop cover dance performances.
The media briefing was attended by Dr. V. Janagan, Chairman and CEO of IDM Nations Campus International; Dr. Lionel Pinto, President of IDM Nations Campus International; Prof. Prasath Herath, Director of Operations; Maj. Gen. Sajith Liyanage, Executive Director; Prof. Kyounghee An, Head of the Theatre and Acting Department, College of K-Culture Innovation at Far East University; and Reina Lim of the Office of International and External Affairs, Korean Language Education Centre, Far East University.
In a message for the occasion, Far East University President Lyu Kee-il said K-culture is more than entertainment, describing it as a bridge that connects the people of Korea and Sri Lanka. He expressed hope that the festival and the expanding academic partnership between the two institutions would further strengthen friendship, cultural understanding, and cooperation between the two countries.
The 2026 Eoullim K-Culture Festival is expected to attract students, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the public, providing a unique platform to experience Korean culture while fostering lasting educational and cultural ties between South Korea and Sri Lanka.
