COLOMBO : Thalpe Railway Station Inaugurated as First Under ‘Dream Destination’ Project
The renovated Thalpe Railway Station was inaugurated Friday,Jan. Thalpe Railway Station Inaugurated as First Under ‘Dream Destination’ Project (02), marking the first railway station to be upgraded under the Dream Destination project implemented as part of the Clean Sri Lanka programme.
The renovation initiative is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation and the Clean Sri Lanka programme, with the support of the private sector through public-private partnerships. Under this national project, 100 railway stations across the country are to be modernised, with the Galle–Thalpe Railway Station selected as the first location.
The project aims to create a clean, attractive and passenger-friendly railway station network while enhancing safety, accessibility and comfort for all commuters, including persons with special needs.
