The Pongal Festival organized by the Bloemendal Police Station, Colombo, was successfully held Saturrday, on 17th January 2026, marking a historic milestone as the first-ever Pongal celebration organized by the police in the Bloemendhal area, according to local residents.
The event was graced by several distinguished guests. The Chief Guest was the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Colombo , Nishantha de Silva. Also in attendance were the Senior Superintendent of Police for Colombo North Division, Rohan Pushpakumara, Assistant Superintendent of Police Colombo North I, Nalin Jayasundara, Assistant Superintendent of Police Colombo North III, Mr. Midin, and Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of Colombo North IV and the District, Kamal Senanayake, along with Officers-in-Charge of all police stations in the Colombo North area.
The event was organized under the leadership of the Officein r-in-Charge of the Bloemendal Police Station, Chief Inspector of Police Ajith Peduruarachchi, and was conducted in a highly successful and well coordinated manner.
A large number of local residents, members of the Police Community Committees, and Municipal council members also participated in the event, highlighting the strong relationship between the police and the community.
The celebration served as a meaningful platform to strengthen unity, cultural harmony, and cooperation between the police and the public.
