COLOMBO – Team Torrington organized its Walkers’ Eid Gathering 2026 at Torrington Square on Sunday, July 5, bringing together members of the walking community. The event commenced with a welcome address by Umar Anver.
Delivering the keynote address, Ash Sheikh Arkam Nooramith, General Secretary of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, commended the organizers for arranging the gathering. He noted that Sri Lanka’s Sinhala, Tamil, and Muslim communities celebrate their respective religious and cultural festivals in a spirit of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, emphasizing the importance of preserving this longstanding tradition of harmony.
Among the large gathering of walkers were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, along with several current and former Members of Parliament.
Guests were treated to a variety of traditional Sri Lankan Muslim delicacies, adding a rich cultural touch to the occasion.
The Torrington walking track, located near Independence Square, is a popular destination where people gather daily for exercise at their convenience. From time to time, various walking groups organize breakfast gatherings and social events, providing opportunities for participants to meet, exchange greetings, and strengthen friendships.
The gathering reflected a joyful celebration of unity, friendship, and cultural diversity, helping to foster stronger bonds among Sri Lanka’s diverse communities.
Students of Zahira College, Colombo, added colour to the event with a captivating Qaseeda performance, which was warmly appreciated by the audience.
