Talalla Beach to be made an Internationally Certified Blue Flag Beach

COLOMBO : The initiative to transform Talalla Beach, a long stretch of golden sands in the Devinuwara Divisional Secretariat area of Matara District, into an internationally certified Blue Flag Beach was launched on the 27th at Talalla Beach.

The project is being implemented by the Marine Environment Protection Authority under the Clean Sri Lanka programme.

The Blue Flag Certification is a globally recognized environmental standard awarded to beaches that meet stringent criteria in environmental conservation, water quality, environmental awareness, safety and services. Developing Talalla Beach to meet these standards will not only enhance its environmental value but also significantly boost its appeal as a tourist destination, thereby supporting the country’s economic growth objectives.

Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti, Minister of Environment Dr. Dhammika Patabendi, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Russell Aponsu, Matara District Secretary Chandana Thilakaratne, Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority Samantha Gunasekara, along with representatives from government and non-government organizations, attended the event.
