COLOMBO :As a prominent advocate for social responsibility in Sri Lanka, the Muslim Foundation for Culture & Development (MFCD) organized a distinctive “Aurudu Uthsawaya” for children with different abilities.
Themed “Okkotama Ekaha Salakamu,” the event harmonized with the spirit of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2024, a period cherished for its cultural richness and communal unity.
“Differently abled” is a term embraced to honor individuals whose physical, mental, or psychological faculties diverge from conventional norms.
Just like their peers, disabled children are entitled to equal rights as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Within this noble framework, MFCD orchestrated such a commendable event, firmly believing that participation is not a privilege but a right, ensuring they enjoy the same rights as any other child.
The event unfolded on April 25th, 2024, at the Umagaliya Public Play Ground in Kolonnawa, graced by the esteemed presence of Kolonnawa’s Divisional Secretary, Mr. Priyanath Perera. Among the distinguished guests were Vihara Adikari Ven. Amunakolapalassa Vipoolasiri Thero, Assistant Divisional Secretary Mr. Chaminda Paranamanna, Social Service Officer Niladari Mr. Bambaradeniya, alongside various government officials.
Notable attendees from the Muslim Foundation for Culture & Development (MFCD) included Chairman Mr. Hanan Hussain, Head of Finance Mr. Ashfaq, Khalid Mishal, Ahmad Yaasin, and Yoonus Waali.”
