
COLOMBO : The Supreme Chamber of Youth Governance (SCY-GOV) launching ceremony took place at The Kingsbury Hotel in Colombo on Thursday, October 9 with the theme of SCY-GOV Governing Council appointment & Supreme Awards ceremony 2024
The event was held under the chairmanship of Supreme Chairman Umair Nawshad. General Secretary Zamil Shafeek and the Supreme Advisor Dr.Irshad Jabir PhD supervised the programme.
The ceremony brought together members of the diplomatic corps, prominent journalists, businessmen and distinguished guests.
Outstanding media men were presented awards for their dedicated services in their field.
Colombo Times Chief Editor and Arab News Sri Lanka correspondent Mohammed Rasooldeen received a lifetime award for completing 50 years of active journalism.
Awards were also given to Daily News Deputy Editor Chaminda Perera, Thinakaran Associate Editor Marlin Marikkar, and Freelance Journalist Ruzaik Farook.
Representatives from various media such as News First Sirasa TV’s Vindana Prasad, Shakthi TV’s Riyaz Harees, Hiru TV’s Chamuditha Samarawickrama, and Derana TV’s Anurada Sigera were also honoured with awards,
The event held in the presence of ambassadors and high commissioners from from Indonesia, Vietnam, Palestine, Maldives, and Malaysia.
Additionally, tokens of appreciation were presented to the diplomats and other distinguished guests during the ceremony. Zeenat Trading Chairman Maheer Hassan, Illyas Bhaila and Professor B A Husseinmiya were also present as special guests at the glamorous event which was spiced with colourful cultural shows.
