COLOMBO:Tamil National Alliance MP M.A. Sumanthiran PC has condemned the arrests and detentions being carried out under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, and has called for the PTA to be repealed soon.
MP Sumanthiran pointed out that the government has given assurances to state bodies, foreign agencies and international organisations that the PTA will not be utilized against protestors.
However the Government had not kept these promised, and has used the provisions in the act against citizens, the MP said, adding that the act itself creates a dangerous climate.
He requested for the immediate release of the three suspects being held under detention orders, and called for the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.( news first )
