Student parliament formed at Muslim Ladies College, Colombo

COLOMBO – The Student Parliament inauguration ceremony was held at Muslim Ladies College Bambalapitiya on Tuesday May 23.

It was held under the patronage of the Principal of the College Mrs. Nasriya Munas.
Former Minister of Mass Media and Member of Parliament Imtiaz Bakeer Markar was present as the chief guest.

Prime Minister of Parliament Zainab Yakoob delivered the welcome address and Speaker of Parliament Zaba Rizwan also addressed the gathering.

Imtiaz Bakeer Markar said in his speech that when he was a student at Ananda College Colombo he had never seen any difference as a Muslim student during his school days. He also mentioned that when he was at school he was elected as the president of the debate team and hockey team. He also said that when he was at the school hostel he was elected as the President of the hostel student parliament.
He further said that the present Parliament has 225 members but only 10 or 12 members are women and no Muslim women. He hoped that these students become a member of the Parliament in the future.
Speaker, Prime Minister, Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Advisory Committee Leaders, and Coordinators took oath at this event and the Ministers of various Ministries proposed the proposal at the Parliament.
Principal Nasriya Munas and Student Parliament teachers in charge Nilmini Mahanama and Rifka Roomi pinned the badges to the members of the student parliament.


Deputy Principals. Vice Principals, the Head of the Primary Section, Members of the Past Pupils Association and School Development Committee, Teachers, Students and Parents were also present.
