The controversy started when Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) chairman MMC Ferdinando told a parliamentary panel that he had been told by President Rajapaksa that PM Modi had pressured him to hand over the power project directly to the Adani Group. President Rajapaksa vehemently denied the claim.
A day later, Ferdinando also withdrew his statement. But Ferdinado later resigned from the CEB. The corruption allegations are currently under investigation in Sri Lanka and the President is surrounded by all the allegations.
People had also recently held demonstrations against the President and the Prime Minister.
