
COLOMBO – The Russian House in Colombo successfully concluded St. Petersburg Week 2025 at Russian House on Saturday September 27. An event that showcased higher education and cultural opportunities for Sri Lankan students in Russia. The week-long program, held from September 22 to 26, drew strong participation from youth across the island through a series of online and physical seminars.
A highlight of the week was the announcement that the Russian State Scholarship quota for Sri Lanka has doubled this year, increasing from 50 to 100 scholarships. This expansion creates greater opportunities for students aspiring to pursue world-class higher education in Russia.
The program featured inspiring seminars led by graduates of leading Russian universities, including Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the First Pavlov State Medical University. Speakers shared personal experiences, offering students a clear perspective on both academic life and cultural opportunities in Russia.
Senior officials from the Russian House in Colombo, including CEO Buddhapriya Ramanayaka and Education Officer Bhathini Perera, emphasized the value of education in Russia and encouraged students to seize this opportunity as a pathway to personal growth and international recognition.
Alongside the physical sessions, online open days connected Sri Lankan students with prestigious institutions such as St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications and St. Petersburg State University of Economics. Presentations highlighted diverse fields including IT, cybersecurity, economics, and international relations. Testimonials from Sri Lankan students already studying in Russia further strengthened confidence among applicants.
The event concluded with cultural exchanges, featuring Russian sweets and images of St. Petersburg, symbolizing a glimpse into a city that could soon become an academic home for many Sri Lankans.
Building on the success of St. Petersburg Week, the Russian House announced that Moscow Week will begin next week, bringing another series of academic and cultural sessions.
Applications are now open for the 2026/27 Russian State Scholarships, offering Sri Lankan students a chance to pursue fully funded higher education in Russia.
