COLOMBO : Sri Lanka’s Men’s and Women’s Rugby Teams Crowned CASA Sevens Champions
Sri Lanka’s men’s and women’s rugby teams returned to the island on May 19 after winning both titles at the inaugural Central Asia South Asia Sevens Rugby Tournament held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The men’s team defeated India 31-10 in the final to become the first-ever CASA Sevens champions, while the women’s team secured a dominant 27-0 victory over Kazakhstan to claim the women’s title.
The teams, led by captains Srinath Sooriyabandara and Charani Liyanage, received an official welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake.
Officials of Sri Lanka Rugby, sports authorities, family members, and rugby supporters were present to congratulate the players for bringing international glory to Sri Lanka.
