Sri Lanka’s Grand Bilingual Film Ravana Magan / Veera Launched in Colombo

COLOMBO:The official pooja ceremony and launch of the much-anticipated bilingual feature film Ravana Magan (Tamil) / Veera (Sinhala) was held recently in Colombo with great fanfare.

The film, which is being produced simultaneously in Tamil and Sinhala, is directed by renowned choreographer Master Krishna from Batticaloa and is being mounted on a grand scale.

The project is produced by K. Siva under the banner of Good Friends Cine Production (Pvt) Ltd.

Marking his Tamil cinema debut as a lead actor, Akila Dhanuddhara Anthony, son of the late Sinhala cinema legend Jackson Anthony, plays the protagonist. Actress Jovita Philip Livingston, daughter of actor-director Livingston, stars as the female lead.

Popular Sri Lankan actor Dasun Pathirana portrays the antagonist.

The film also features a talented ensemble cast from Sri Lanka, including Jerad Noel, Aravinthan, Imran, Ruthra, Pearlija, Umesh, Praveen, Thuja, Madanu Krishna, Jinishkanth, Anushan, Varun, Dinesh, Kandheeban Kingsley, Navaseegaran, Shantha, Varathan, Yuvan Nathan, Lingaraja, and Bhoomika.

The screenplay and associate direction are handled by Thamizhselvan Subramani, while Ruthra Amirtharethnam is responsible for Sinhala translation and dialogue adaptation.

Nalinda Wickramasekara serves as the cinematographer, while Mallesh handles editing. Action choreography is led by K. Ganesh Kumar, and Vithiyashagar Sankaralingam is the dance director. Makeup departments are headed by Kasthoori Sivalingam and Meshach Sagayaraja.

Music for the film has been composed by Tamil film music director Sakishna Xavier.

Two songs in the film have been penned by lyricist Pottuvil Asmin and rendered by Anthonydas and Mahalingam. One of the songs, written as a heartfelt father’s lullaby to his son, is expected to be a significant milestone in Asmin’s songwriting journey. The emotional impact of the composition was evident when singer Anthonydas was reportedly moved to tears while recording it.

Another song in the film has been written by lyricist Satheeshkanth and performed by acclaimed playback singers Sathyaprakash and Priyanka.

Ravana Magan / Veera is being viewed as an important cinematic collaboration bringing together artists from Sri Lanka and India. The project is expected to strengthen cultural ties between the Tamil and Sinhala film industries while introducing a new era of creative partnership in Sri Lankan cinema.
