Sri Lankan woman Sameera Mehboobdeen joins nternational ship campaign to help Gazans !

COLOMBO : Sri Lanka native Sameera Mehboobdeen left the island on Tuesday night on April 21 to join Sri Lanka in the international ship campaign called “Global Sumud Flotilla” (Global Sumud Flotilla) to break the ban on Gaza.

The team’s main objective is to carry the humanitarian aid and medical supplies needed for Gazans.

The journey started from Barcelona, Spain. Representatives, doctors and activists from more than 100 countries participated.

“Sumud” means “confirmation” or “tolerance” in Arabic. This is the symbol of the Palestinians struggle. He bravely expresses his support for Palestinian people by making this trip to the international sea with the flag of Sri Lanka.

These ships formally started their journey from Barcelona, Spain on April 12, 2026.

This is considered the biggest humanitarian cruise in history. This has about 70 to 100 ships and about 3,000 representatives from over 100 countries.

In particular, a special medical ship has joined forces consisting of more than 1,000 doctors and nurses to restore Casa’s collapsed health structure.

These ships are currently cruising the Central Sea. These are planning stops in Italy and Greece. Planning to travel from Italyy to Gaza on April 24th.

A few years ago, “Gaza Children’s Fund” was created through the President’s Fund of Sri Lanka and the fund was raised to provide humanitarian aids to Gaza affected children.

The Sri Lankan government and various voluntary organizations together despatched essential food items, medicines and blankets etc through the United Nations Council (UNRWA).

Following this, the contribution of individuals like Sameera Mehboobdeen has also made the world realize the stand of Sri Lankans at the global level..
