COLOMBO : Sri Lankan poet and film lyricist Pottuvil Asmin has released a heartfelt tribute song honouring veteran Tamil music composer Deva, following the legendary musician’s demise.
Titled with the poignant opening lines, ”Nallavarukku Nallavara… Ini Naam Paarka Mudiyathu” (A Good Man Among Good People… We Can No Longer See Him), the song expresses the grief of losing the celebrated composer and celebrates his invaluable contribution to Tamil music.
According to the creator’s team, this is the first tribute song released worldwide in honour of Deva following his passing.
Pottuvil Asmin has previously created several musical and literary tributes commemorating prominent personalities. Following the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, he wrote the condolence song ”Vaaney Idinthathamma”. He also penned ”Thirukkuvalai Sooriyan”, a tribute poem dedicated to former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. The poem was subsequently included in ”Kalaignar Nooru Kavithaigal”, a collection compiled by renowned lyricist Vairamuthu.
Asmin also contributed to ”Ezhunthu Vaa Isaiye”, a tribute dedicated to legendary playback singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam on behalf of fellow artists.
A poet, lyricist and media professional, Asmin entered Tamil cinema with the song ”Thappellam Thappe Illai” from Vijay Antony’s film ”Naan”. Since then, he has written lyrics for several films and gained wider recognition for his work, including the popular Sri Lankan Tamil song ”Ayyo Saami Nee Enakku Venam”.
Beyond songwriting, Asmin has worked as a television programme producer and presenter and has received recognition for his contributions to literature and the arts.
Deva, affectionately known as ”Thenisai Thendral”, leaves behind a lasting musical legacy through his memorable compositions and distinctive contribution to Tamil cinema. Asmin’s tribute serves as an emotional remembrance of a composer whose music touched generations of listeners.
