COLOMBO – The Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs had organized Islamic Religious Observance to mark the 74th Independence Day at the Colombo Grand Mosque yesterday 4th February.
It was held under the patronage of Justice Minister Ali Sabry and Uva Governor A. J. M. Muzammil.
Two minutes-silence was observed in memory of members of Armed Forces and Police who laid down their arms for the Motherland.
Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Director Ibrahim Sahib Ansar delivered the welcome address.
Special Dua (prayers) were conducted by Prime Minister’s Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Coordinator Ash Seyed Hassan Moulana and Ihsaniyyah Arabic College Vice Principal Ash Sheikh M.F. M. Farood in Tamil and Sinhala language.
Member of Parliament Marjan Faleel, Deputy Mayor of Colombo M.T.M. Iqbal, Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Coordinating Secretary Farzan Munsoor, Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Department Deputy Director Ala Ahamed, All Ceylon Jamiyathul Ulama Secretary Ash Sheik Arkam Nooramith , Programme Coordinator Ash Sheik M.M.M.Mufthi, Colomboi Grand Mosque President Thaufik Zubyr and Department Officials were present.
