MALE : The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Maldives in collaboration with Maldivian Blood Services
and State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) organized a blood donation programme on 5 June
2026 at the STELCO Auditorium to coincide with Vesak and the World Blood Donor Day which
falls on 14 June with the participation of approximately 80 Sri Lankans who volunteered to donate
blood.
The opening of the event was graced with the presence of the Deputy CEO of Malé City Group of
Hospitals, Mohamed Mabrook and Managing Director of STELCO Dr. Ali Azwar.
In his welcome remarks, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Maldives Mohamed Rizvi Hassen
stated that the blood donation programme is a gesture of solidarity and Maldives by the Sri Lankan community. He extended gratitude towards the Sri Lankans who
volunteered to donate blood for their generosity and also appreciated the staff of the Maldivian
Blood Services, STELCO and Sri Lanka High Commission for their tireless work in making the
MALE :event a success.
The Deputy CEO of Malé City Group of Hospitals, Mohamed Mabrook thanked the organizers
for the initiative. Managing Director of STELCO Dr. Ali Azwar conveyed that STELCO was
pleased to partner with the High Commission and Maldivian Blood Services to contribute to this
great cause. Both dignitaries expressed their sincere appreciation towards the blood donors for their
selfless and kind act.
The blood donation program was organized by the High Commission for the 5th consecutive year.
