The newly appointed Representative of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the State of Palestine, Ambassador Mohamed Farook Mohamed Fawzer, presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, at the Presidential Palace in Ramallah onTuesday June 23.
Upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace, Ambassador Fawzer was accorded ceremonial honours, including a Guard of Honour, followed by the formal presentation of credentials and an audience with President Abbas.
During the meeting, Ambassador Fawzer conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Excellency Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Palestine.
The Ambassador underscored the historic and enduring ties between the two countries, founded on mutual respect, solidarity, and shared values. He reiterated Sri Lanka’s unwavering support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and reaffirmed the Government of Sri Lanka’s consistent support for the realization of an independent, sovereign, viable, and contiguous State of Palestine, living side by side in peace and security, in accordance with international law, relevant United Nations resolutions, and the internationally endorsed two-State solution.
President Abbas warmly welcomed Ambassador Fawzer, expressed appreciation for Sri Lanka’s longstanding solidarity with Palestine, and conveyed his confidence in the continued strengthening of bilateral relations. He also extended his best wishes to the Ambassador for a successful tenure and expressed confidence that the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries would continue to flourish.
Ambassador Fawzer expressed his appreciation for the President’s goodwill and reaffirmed his commitment to translating the historic political solidarity between Sri Lanka and Palestine into meaningful cooperation that contributes to the well-being and prosperity of the peoples of both countries, while further enhancing institutional, cultural, and people-to-people ties.
The ceremony was attended by Presidential Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs, Mr. Magdi Al-Khaledi; Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen; and Commander of the Presidential Guard, Major General Muhammad Daajna.
