Sri Lankan Community in Riyadh donates consignment of essential items to Cyclone victims back home

COLOMBO ; In response to an appeal made by the Sri Lankan embassy. In Riyadh, the island’s expatriate workers sent a consignment of relief of essential items (4,000 kg) worth of LKR 3.5 million sent to the Disaster management Unit in Colombo.

The consignment was formally handed to the to the Safeline Cargo on 10 December to be dispatched to the Disaster Management Center (DMC) in Colombo.

Speaking during the occasion, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad expressed his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause to support the disaster- affected Sri Lankan communities back home. He also highlighted that Sri Lankan expatriates in the Kingdom have always been at the forefront with the great sense of commitment and compassion to support their fellow Sri Lankans back home unitedly without any differences during the difficult times of the nation. Ambassador appreciated the generosity and solidarity demonstrated by the Sri Lankan community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and briefed the Embassy’s ongoing initiatives to provide humanitarian assistance to the victims of this devastating natural disaster.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh has initiated a parallel collection process of essential items establishing three collection centers namely Sri Lanka Embassy in Riyadh, Sri Lanka International School Riyadh and Trico Cargo offices in different regions of the Kingdom.
The event was attended by the Embassy officials, Mohamed Anas, Minister, . Vindana Munasinghe, First Secretary, Hameed, protocol officer as well as proprietors of the Safeline Cargo and community volunteers.
