Sri Lankan cabinet of ministers resign acceding to public demand

COLOMBO : The full team of Cabinet Ministers has decided to resign from their respective portfolios, SLPP parliamentarian and Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena said here on Sunday,April 3.

He said the ministers have already handed their letters of resignation to the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has not resigned and that he will continue to function in the position till the other arrangements are made in the coming days.

It is presumed that the decision was sequel to a meeting held between prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the late evening on Sunday,April 3.

There was a spate of protests all over the country despite the imposition of an island-wide curfew demanding the resignation of President Rajapaksa and his team for the failure of the government to fulfill the daily needs of the citizens.
