JAKARTA : Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia and ASEAN Sashikala Premawardhane paid a
courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Sugiono at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on 10 August 2026.
Ambassador Premawardhane conveyed the greetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath to Minister Sugiono and recalled the
invitation extended to Minister Sugiono to visit Sri Lanka at a mutually convenient time.
Minister Sugiono extended his best wishes to Minister Herath and Ambassador
Premawardhane and expressed his willingness to visit Sri Lanka in the future. He
underscored the importance of revitalizing the longstanding bilateral relations between the
two countries and of high-level exchanges in further strengthening bilateral ties.
The discussions focused on enhancing connectivity and people-to-people contacts;
strengthening economic and investment relations; expanding cooperation in defence and
security; promoting cooperation in agriculture and fisheries; and advancing collaboration
in regional fora, including ASEAN.
The implementation of existing bilateral instruments, including the Joint Commission on
Bilateral Cooperation, and the early conclusion of other bilateral instruments in the
political, economic and defence spheres were emphasized as important steps towards
strengthening and streamlining cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Indonesia and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta.
