HA NOI : The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Viet Nam, in collaboration with Luxury Holidays Asia, successfully organized the “Discover Sri Lanka” tourism promotion event in Ha Noi on 28 July 2026,
The event promoted Sri Lanka as a premier destination for the Vietnamese market, with special emphasis on the country’s rich Buddhist heritage and the enhanced travel opportunities created by the launch of direct flights between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam.
The event was graced by Vice President and General Secretary of the Executive Council of the Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha, Most Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, together with senior representatives of the Viet Nam National Authority of Tourism, government officials, and tourism stakeholders.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam, Poshitha Perera, highlighted the centuries-old religious and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam rooted in Buddhism. He introduced the newly launched Sri Lanka Buddhist Trail, an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka, showcasing the island’s most sacred Buddhist sites, including Anuradhapura, Mihintale, and the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. The Ambassador noted that the initiative would further strengthen spiritual and cultural links while promoting religious tourism.
A destination presentation by Managing Director of Luxury Holidays Asia, Nishantha Jayasinghe, highlighted Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings, including heritage, wildlife, beaches, wellness, adventure, and luxury travel experiences tailored for the Vietnamese market.
Representatives of VietJet Air introduced their promotional travel packages to Sri Lanka and highlighted the airline’s upcoming direct services between Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo. The event also underscored the launch of direct air connectivity by both VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines in August, a significant milestone expected to boost tourism, trade, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Adding a personal perspective, former Ambassador of Viet Nam to Sri Lanka, Ho Thi Thanh Truc together with Vietnamese travellers who had previously visited Sri Lanka, shared their experiences and encouraged more Vietnamese tourists to discover Sri Lanka’s unique attractions, warm hospitality, and rich cultural heritage. The programme concluded with a high tea and networking session, enabling participants to engage with tourism professionals, airline representatives, and the Embassy.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka believes that the introduction of the Sri Lanka Buddhist Trail, together with the commencement of direct flights by VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines, will significantly enhance tourism exchanges between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam and open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation in tourism and cultural connectivity.
