Sri Lanka Showcases Cultural Heritage at the 4th Asia Cultural Festival in Bucharest

BUCHAREAT ; The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Romania participated in the 4th edition of the Asia Cultural Festival, held on Saturday, 3 October 2026, at the Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum in Bucharest. The event brought together diplomatic missions of 13 Asian countries under the theme “One Continent. Thousand Stories”.

Cultural performances from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Turkmenistan and Vietnam, featuring traditional attire, music, dance and cuisine, turned the festival into a vibrant celebration of cultural diplomacy.

The highlight of the festival was the fashion show depicting traditional attire from the participating countries. The Sri Lankan Kandyan Bridal Osariya and Nilame Dress captivated the audience. Sri Lankan dance performances by the Romania-based Sri Thale Dancing Group, featuring a traditional Wes Netuma and a drum orchestra titled “Beat of Heritage”, were also well received. The performance showcased the rhythms of Sri Lankan drums, including the Thammattama, Geta Beraya and Yak Beraya.

Sri Lanka’s country booth, which offered visitors Ceylon Tea, Sri Lankan coffee, biscuits and spices, attracted considerable attention. The booth also showcased a selection of Sri Lankan handicrafts, including traditional wooden masks, jewellery, wooden items and products made from palmyrah leaves.

The Embassy also promoted Sri Lanka as a travel destination, highlighting its cultural heritage and natural beauty, from tea gardens and ancient sites to pristine beaches and wildlife. Tourism promotional materials, including brochures, destination guides and maps, were distributed, while tourism promotional videos were screened at the entrance of the Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum.
