Sri Lanka looks forward to working closely with ASEAN countries – Minister Vijitha Herath

COLOMBO : Speaking at the inaugural event of the week-long ‘ASEAN Cuisines Week 2026’ food festival in Colombo, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said Sri Lanka and ASEAN countries look forward to opportunities for closer collaboration in various fields.

The government expects to further expand the existing cooperation between Sri Lanka and ASEAN member countries in the fields of trade and investment, tourism, education and culture, said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the ASEAN ambassadors, including Ms. Trinh Thi Tam, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, who is  the Head of the ASEAN Embassies in Colombo, for organizing the event in Sri Lanka.

The Minister said that this event is not just an opportunity to introduce the cuisines of different countries. It also serves as an important platform to further strengthen friendship, mutual understanding and partnership. He also pointed out that food is a powerful bridge that connects cultures and people.

The event, held at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel in Colombo yesterday (21), was attended by ambassadors, diplomatic officials and many distinguished guests from ASEAN countries based in Colombo.
