Sri Lanka Elected to the UN CEDAW Committee

COLOMBO : Sri Lanka has been successfully elected to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee) at the election held at the United Nations Headquarters.

Sri Lanka secured 144 votes out of 185 valid votes, receiving the highest number of votes among all successful candidates.

This election reflects the confidence of the international community in Sri Lanka’s commitment to advancing and protecting the rights of women and promoting gender equality.

The candidate Prof Rangita de Silva is re-elected to CEDAW. Only Sri Lankan candidate to be re-elected.
