Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry conducts “Step for Peace and Humanity – Colombo Marathon 2026”

COLOMBO – The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs organised the “Step for Peace and Humanity – Colombo Marathon 2026” on Sunday, September 13, bringing together local and international runners in a celebration of peace, unity, humanity and healthy living through sport.

The marathon commenced at the Galle Face premises and followed a route through Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya, Wellawatte and Dehiwala before concluding at Galle Face.

The Colombo Marathon 2026, a premier international running event, was organised with the aim of promoting peace, unity and mutual understanding through sports. By bringing together participants from Sri Lanka and overseas, the event provided a platform to foster mutual respect, cooperation and friendship among people representing diverse cultures, nations and communities.

Among those taking part were the daughter of the Maldivian High Commissioner and family members of the High Commissioner’s spouse, adding an international dimension to the event.

The Colombo Marathon 2026 is officially registered with World Athletics and the International Marathon and Distance Running Association, further strengthening its standing as an internationally recognised distance-running event.

The event highlighted the power of sport to bring people together while encouraging healthy lifestyles and promoting the values of peace and humanity.
