CoKOMBO : A special interfaith prayer and condolence programme was held at the Embassy of Nepal in Sri Lanka today (03/09/2026) to express solidarity with the people of Nepal affected by the recent devastating floods.
Prayers were offered for those who lost their lives in the floods, for those who have been affected, and for Nepal to recover and return to a strong and peaceful state as soon as possible.
Representing Buddhist, Hindu, Islam and Christianity, a delegation of interfaith religious leaders Most Ven. Shasthrapathi Dr. Galagama Dhammaransi Nayaka Thero, Sivashri Dr. Babusarma Kurukkal, Al-Haj Ash-Seyed Dr. Hassan Moulana Al-Quadiri, Archbishop Dr. Prince J. Gnanaraja, Rev. Dr. Thilakasooriya Jayawardena, and Rev. Dr. Anthony Swamy, visited the Embassy of Nepal in Sri Lanka.
The religious leaders met with the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Nepal in Sri Lanka, Hon. Vijay Kumar Raut, and conveyed their deepest condolences on behalf of the four major faith communities in Sri Lanka.
Special prayers were also conducted by the interfaith religious leaders for the people of Nepal, seeking strength, comfort and a speedy recovery for those affected by the disaster.
The religious leaders further recorded their heartfelt condolences in the condolence book placed at the Embassy of Nepal, representing their respective faith communities.
Senior officials of the Embassy of Nepal were also present during the occasion.
