COLOMBO: A great demand for soluble insulin is reported on Tuesday June 7, from the Castle Street Maternity Hospital In Borella .
Dr Samankumara ,who is attached to the hospital told the press that the insulin is given to pregnant mothers before and after the birth of their children if they had developed diabetes during pregnancy.
Dr Samankumara said that although the medicine is not available in the hospital ,it is found in the open market.” We are appealing to philanthropists to help these patients with these medicines.”
The doctor explained that some 1,000 babies are born in this hospital which caters to the lower-middle class people .
He said that if the diabetic mothers do not get the insulin in time both the baby and the mother tend to get affected .
Interested donors have been requested to contact the hospital authorities .
