COLOMBO : From major floods and landslides to individual emergencies, the Sri Lanka Tri-Forces remain ready to respond whenever people are in danger.
Thursday pmorning (06 Aug), Army Corporals S/629506 Sandamal ADM and S/629417 Wijewardena
DMTI, while performing their duties at School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Gannoruwa in,
Kandy received information a woman struggling in the Mahaweli River. Without hesitation, with the
instructions of school commandant the two soldiers had rushed to her aid and successfully brought her to
safety, demonstrating the courage, alertness and selfless commitment of Army personnel in protecting
civilian lives.
Putting their lives at risk these two soldiers were able to save the woman and get her ashore. Their quick
response and courage is a powerful reminder that the duty of our Tri-Forces extends beyond protecting
the nation, it also means standing up to protect every life.
As inclement weather continues to affect the hill country, rising water levels in several major rivers have
resulted in the inundation of surrounding low-lying areas. Tri-Forces rescue and relief teams continue to
assist affected communities, while additional personnel, equipment and resources remain on standby to
respond promptly to any further emergencies
