Social activists offer relief packs to flood victims

COLOMBO : A group of social activists voluntarily came forward to help the vulnerable and needy families who were adversely affected by the recent incessant rains that lashed the country during the past several days.

 Since the outbreak of the third wave pandemic, vulnerable people across the country have faced multiple challenges, including the loss of income. To combat this pandemic threat, the Sri Lankan government has imposed a national lockdown. The recent floods has worsened the situation.

The group has taken initiative to support the affected families in micro project level started from 1st May 2021 and provided Rs 1500 worth of dry ration hampers and  continuously served  around 80 families affected at  Wellampitiya (Kithampahuwa & Megodakolonnawa areas). 

 It was financially sponsored by Auf Sally & Bah  Friends 90 group members, Overseas Sri Lankan friends, well-wishersand  Local donors. Shehabudheen & Team neatly packed the hampers whilst logistic were arranged by Mohammed Nilam.

In addition, the group’s another project was initiated and  funded by Mohammed imthiyas, Mohammed Khan, Fairose,  Amila, Bihari S. Ashif (UAE & Oman) which started on 7th June  by depositing cash to bank accounts for the 17 deserving  families to overcome their hardships. Also distributed 62 packs of Vegetables & Dry rations for flood victims.

The second phase of the project Imthiyas and Team will commence by second week of  July, in Colombo.

 Overall, the projects was under the direct supervision and guidance in Colombo by M B M Rukunudeen  who successfully handled the  project.
